Hair Dryerドライヤー

Popular Japanese hair dryers include Panasonic nanoe, ReFa and Dyson. Most dryers sold in Japanese stores are 100V domestic models. To use one back home, look for a global-voltage model labeled 100–240V.

Before you buy a Hair Dryer

  • To use it in your country, make sure the voltage range covers your local voltage. Global models are labeled 100–240V; a domestic model marked AC100V will burn out on 200–240V power. More ›
  • Some overseas-compatible models need a manual voltage switch (e.g., Panasonic EH-NA9F). Set it to your local voltage before the first use at home. More ›
  • Japanese dryers have a Type A flat two-pin plug. Check whether your country's outlets accept Type A; if not, you need a plug adapter. More ›
  • Airflow is measured differently by each brand, so compare only within a brand. For thick hair, look at airflow; for damaged hair, look at ion features such as nanoe. More ›
  • Dryers bought abroad usually aren't covered by your home-country warranty. Compare prices before you go; if the difference is small, buying at home is less hassle. More ›

Taking it home

  • Check the voltage on the body or box: AC100V models are for Japan only; models marked 100–240V (or 100–120V/200–240V) can be used in your country if the range covers your local voltage
  • For models with a manual voltage switch, confirm it's set to your local voltage before plugging in at home for the first time
  • Japanese dryers have a Type A flat two-pin plug; use a plug adapter if your outlets don't accept it
  • Hair dryers have no battery, so they can go in carry-on or checked baggage; checking is recommended if the original box is bulky
  • Products bought abroad usually aren't covered by your home-country warranty; keep the receipt and warranty card
