Power in Thailand

Voltage
220V · Japan: 100V
Frequency
50Hz · Japan: 50/60Hz
Outlets
Type A/B · Japan: Type A/B

Outlet types in Thailand vary. Most are universal outlets that take both Type A flat pins and Type C round pins, so Japanese Type A plugs usually fit. Newer Type O (three round pins) outlets do not, so some outlets need a plug adapter.

Works as is: ReFa RE-AX, YA-MAN YJHC2, Koizumi KDD-0030 and more

Main reason: Voltage not compatible: the rated voltage doesn't cover the local voltage (e.g. a Japan-only 100V model on 200–240V will burn out); transformers are not recommended for high-wattage appliances (15 models)

Things to know

  • Most common issues with appliances (by number of models):
    • Voltage not compatible: the rated voltage doesn't cover the local voltage (e.g. a Japan-only 100V model on 200–240V will burn out); transformers are not recommended for high-wattage appliances (66)
    • Different plug shape; you need a plug adapter (23)
    • Japan-only edition: system language is Japanese only and accounts must be Japan-region; no other interface languages or non-Japan eShops (3)
    • The manufacturer says it is for use in mainland China only (excluding Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan); it cannot be used elsewhere (2)
    • You must manually set the switch to the 200–240V position before plugging in; forgetting will damage it (1)
  • Customs rules differ and change. Check the latest rules from the customs authority in Thailand before you travel with food, medicine or cosmetics.
  • Results follow each country's published standard voltage, frequency and outlet types; some buildings or hotels may differ. Flight restrictions (lithium batteries, aerosols and so on) do not depend on the destination; see each model page. How we check
